Kuzo: Adopted 21st Novemember 2009
Bandit: Is also an un-neutered grey male and is 3 years and 3 months old. He has three legs as prior to coming to me he had access to a rat wheel and slipped his leg and had half his left leg amputated - so he does require a cage with shelving placed suitably for his needs. Bandit can be a bit of grump - he doesn’t like being picked up as such - but will come on to you of his own accord and those boundaries do need to be respected. He also loves having his play-times out of his cage.
Krystal and Chico: Adopted 13 August 2009
Niko and Tyson: Niko is a nearly 4 year old grey male and Tyson is a 3 year and 3 month black velvet male. These two have been together for 3 years now and get along wonderfully. As with all my pairs - I will not separate them if only one is wanted. They both love escaping and playing outside of their cage and will let you handle them - but their tummies rule and they do ‘suck’ up to you - for the food they get J
Inca and Zania: Both are grey females and mother and daughter - Inca is 4 years and 8 months old and Zania 1 year and 11 months old and like all the others - as soon as the cage door is open - they are out. Both have wonderful natures and these two ladies are a good size - so a big cage is needed. But then I do prefer all my chins to go into nice big roomy cages anyway.
Kazia: She is a grey female who is 4 years of age and she is a very friendly young lady and loves getting out and exploring and is just as happy being on your shoulder - her favourite habit it seems is standing on your shoulders, with her front feet on your head - pulling out hair. She is rather definite about her cage requirements as I had her in a wooden one, moved her into a nice flash cage and she didn’t cope well at all, so now she is settled again in the wooden one - she has bounced back after her sulk period.
Ziggy and Marley: Both grey males - I need to find my piece of paper with their ages on so I’ll update that - but I am sure they are approximately the same age and that is 3.5 years old. I am unsure if they are related as they came as part of a group of 10 late last year. Both boys are friendly and love being out and again, I will not separate a bonded pair just because one is wanted over the other.
Tinkie and Skyla: Adopted 15th October 2009
As it goes with all adoptions through the Rescue - there is paperwork fill out, a minimal adoption fee to pay, contracts to sign (including a non breeding clause) and home visits to complete before I make a final decision, if the prospective owners are still interested and not scared off by completing my forms. As it was said to me recently and how it sums it all up nicely “my responsibility is towards the Chinchillas”, so while there is a process and I will never apologise for this as it is all done in the Chinchillas’ best interest and welfare as this is of the utmost importance, and while my adoption is strict - for this very reason, I have adopted Chinchilla’s, so yes, it is possible.
I do prefer prospective chin owners to come to here and meet the chins as, while I think one may be ready, it could be another who interacts more, so generally - I do let the chins decide to a certain degree. I find doing this - it helps the people interested see the chins in their own environment and how relaxed they are, as naturally, when rehomed, there is an adjustment period, but I do help as best as I can with this and advise how to settle them in quickly. It also enables questions to be asked by those interested.
Chinchilla’s are adopted with a months supply of Chinchilla pellets, lucerne chaff, meadow hay, toys, either hay balls or a hay rack depending on what they are use to in their cage, their water bottle and their dishes if needed as well as a tunnel (when I have spare ones) and their own hammock, as well as a big new bag of sawdust for their cages which would last a minimum of 4 weeks depending on the cage size. They also go with their profiles which includes their ages, colour, history as best as I know it and veterinary care sheets, a leaftlet of the veterinary clinic I use, as I do consider their knowledge just wonderful with all animals and that include’s Chinchillas and a weight chart. Their adoption certificate and birth certificate is laminated and all adoptive parents receive a CD with their new chinchilla’s photos on. I sign over all rights to these items apart from the Chinchilla’s as the contract also has a clause that should circumstances change and the chinchilla(s) need to be rehomed - I get first rights back. I also am on hand for any queries or advice when the Chinchilla is placed in his/her’s permanent home, that goes without saying.
I do request that if I have used their photos on this site and their arrival information that I can still use this information for the site. I also supply their baked treats and a herb mix and a new container of dust bath for them. I am also happy to supply their pellets, lucerne, hay, toys items, dust, treats, herbs as needed for the cost I buy it all for.
So if you feel you can provide a permanent home, all the care needed for a rescue and open your heart to a precious wee soul, regardless on if you think you know what is needed as I do cover all the care required as well and home a Chinchilla inside your own home in a suitable cage, please feel free to contact me. I am also happy to discuss the care required in depth if your not sure if a chinchilla is the right pet for you.
It goes without saying that Chinchilla’s remain in my care until the right homes are found, and this will continue, but it is wonderful when a rescue has found his or her permanent home as well.
Other chinchilla’s that have been adopted are Piccolo, yes, he went to my friend and her husband and naturally, he went with the adoption contract and after the home visit as despite my friend wanting him, the same processes must be followed regardless on if I know the person/people wanting to adopt or not and this is something my friend understood.
Other that have been rehomed are the two that came from the Mother and Daughter in August as well as one pairing of the female group that arrived on the 12th September 2009.
Tinkie and Skyla have found a wonderful home where they can remain together and get lots of one-on-one care as well. Chico and Krystal have gone to a home together as well with a lovely couple and are doing so well being the only Chinchilla's in their new home.
Sometimes I haven't had the time to sit and update this page with who is ready for adopting before some are actually placed in homes, but I will say, regardless on if I get queries via this site or other means - it's wonderful when great homes are finally found for my precious Chinchillas'.
It is lovely hearing back from the ones who have adopted my rescues with how their new family member is settling in and receiving updates. I really enjoy doing the post-adoption Home Visits and seeing them and how settled they are - it's just wonderful.
